I'm sitting here, flipping through ads I've gotten in the mail about buying stuff for college, and I'm overwhelmed. There's so much I need to get, and I'm kind of scared that I'm not going to have everything by the time I leave (in two weeks!).
I guess what's gotten to me the most is the fact that I wan to be considerate of the feelings of my roommates and not get anything too weird. I'd like to get something like teak furniture just for the sake of doing something different, but I don't want my tastes to clash with those of the others. They also have some teak patio furniture and teak outdoor furniture that looks nice, but since my room is obviously indoors, I won't be getting it unless we need something outside. And we might, who knows.

More site stuff about traveling to Hawaii. Darn them; they know I want to see the U.S. and they're just trying to get me to go at this point. Or maybe it's just that one psychological phenomenon where you notice more things that apply to you (like if you buy a certain car, you'll more apt to notice the same kind of car on the road from then on).
Anyway. I found some Hawaii travel information online...and, if we really wanted to, Jon and I could probably afford to go to Hanalei bay resort if we saved up just a little bit -- and that's saying something, since we're both students. Hey, maybe next year...you never know, right?
Curse you. I really wish I could go, just for the sake of saying "I went" (and because I like the idea of living a life with lots of stories to tell others), since it almost seems like an entirely different culture in comparison to where I live now.

I love learning new terminology -- I don't know why, but it's just fun to have a "file o' facts" in my mind. Sometimes they're random, sometimes they're pointless, and sometimes they're things that I've never thought of before. I found out today that a POS machine is short for "Point of Sale" -- meaning a cash register or whatever is used to ring up what you buy at a store (I should admit that I also love acronyms).
There's a place online that specializes in used pos equipment: card scanning equipment, printers, ibm pos equipment, and entire systems and terminals for stores. I can understand why some people would be hesitant to buy used electronics (heck, I'm having a hard time buying used books), but if it's working, and it's working well, I say go for it -- especially if it's cheaper for you (I've finally come to that conclusion). This site actually will refurbish POS devices, so they're not "broken" or "old", or anything like that. I think of it as giving a car a tune-up and a new coat of paint -- I've seen my dad do it plenty of times, and the cars he fixes work wonderfully...and it was cheaper than it would have been to get a car that ran the exact same way just because it was "new". That's silly.
Check it out, if only out of curiosity.

I've got two weeks left until the real worrying and stress begins, and I can say that I've honestly had the worst and most stressful summer of my entire life this year. I thought that a lot of things were going to line up and work out, and they just...didn't. I don't know about you, but sometimes, it just sucks, and you gotta get away from it.
I want a Hawaii beach front vacation. I want one day when I can just relax, at least three thousand miles away from the junk that's going on here. No worries about paperwork, or insurance, or loans, or getting my books on time, or buying everything I need on a shoestring budget..I just want to breathe. If you haven't had a moment like that in your life, I consider you to be the luckiest person alive. Even if you haven't, I think everyone in the U.S. wants to travel to Hawaii at least once. It's just got this exotic feel to it, even though it is a state. It's almost like our own fantasy island for us "48 whole deer" people.
So, who's with me? Who wants a BREAK? We can plan our beach getaway together.

I have terrible eyes. It's almost funny; I never realized it until a friend jokingly lent me her glasses. It was like night and day -- I could read everything. She seemed really shocked by it, especially when she told me that she was almost blind in one eye. I guess it's amazing what you can tolerate over time.
Wholesale Readers has (surprisingly enough) Wholesale Reading Glasses on sale at their site. Personally, cost has been the biggest thing that's kept me from getting glasses -- I've heard that a good pair can run into the hundreds, and I'm way too scared of putting something into my eyes, be it contacts or a laser beam.
Or, if you're business minded, you can always sell them back for a higher price and make a profit. I've done this before with other things (pokemon cards when I was a kid *blush*), and it's a pretty good way of making money on the side.

Jon and I have been talking about going on a trip somewhere during our break in December for the past few weeks. The biggest concern has been transportation -- mainly, "How the heck are we going to get there?" As much as going by plane would be convenient, I would love to go on a road trip with him; they say that's the best way to figure out if you can figure out how you'll work together in the long run...
There's a site with Chicago public auto auctions here that seems interesting and promising. I know that cars cost a lot (my neighbor just had her car go up, and she was almost done with payment...she had three left, but she's had it since about 2004!), and if I lived closer, a thing like a Chicago car auction actually seems pretty decent. I don't think anyone wants (or frankly, needs) a brand new car as their first one -- it doesn't make much sense.
On top of that, it just means I'd have more money once we did go on a road trip -- which we would need, since I have a sneaking suspicion that we would drive each other insane...

I'm trying to find a place to stay for the next two months until I get to leave for Emmitsburg. It's going to be very difficult; there's a chance I may not even be staying in this state if I pull some favors. Whatever the case, I know that it's unbelievably difficult living here, and I really don't know if I can handle it much longer.
I keep looking at these sites, and I really think I would love to go to Hawaii for a while. I'm not a big fan of overheating, but really, the places are just beautiful...much different from Baltimore, which at one point was called the "dirtiest place in the world" (I can't remember who said the quote). Look at some of the pictures on here for Kauai vacations -- how can you not love that? Whenever I go to the beach, the water is filthy, not like how it is there.
Maybe I should have gone to HPU; I would have been closer to that!

I promise I will write about the college adventures once I'm a little less under the weather. It was really cold at the university (even though it's the middle of summer), and now I'm sick. Go figure.
Anyway, Jon and I have still been talking about going on a vacation one of these days together. After yesterday, I definitely do not want to go anywhere that's cold. On top of that, it looks like the university is going to charge me for a lot of my work (outside of the original amount of money they gave as an estimate) because of things I was not told about, so I have to be really careful about money now.
Maui Vacations actually seems pretty affordable to me, and on top of that, I'm pretty sure it's not cold in the summer, like it was yesterday. My cousins and I talked about it earlier a few months ago, and they absolutely loved their Hawaiian vacation, but they told me it was very costly -- it doesn't look bad from what I've seen here, though.
Now, I'm gonna go back to sleep...this cold is killing me...maybe I wouldn't have gotten it if I were somewhere nice and warm like that, heh.

While I'm definitely happy that I have a bank account, sometimes it's really an inconvenience. I use the bank that I do only out of tradition; my Grandfather used that bank, my Mother uses that bank, and since I don't know of any others nearby, I use it too. It's one of the smallest banks I know of; there are only two branches in all of my city -- and they charge me for almost everything since they're so small.
A&L (short for "Alliance Leicester") won the "Best Current Account Provider" award in 2006 for their bank accounts, and from what I've seen on their site, it's for good reason -- their services are available online (which is a major plus), no overdraft fees for the first few months on some accounts, and they even have a special service for people in my age bracket (16-21).
It's times like these I wish I lived in Europe...
